Origin

Active In
Linalool · linalyl acetate · limonene

Bergamot has been studied extensively for its effect on the HPA axis — the system that regulates your stress response. Its primary active compounds interact with GABA receptors in the brain to produce a calming, mood-elevating effect. This is not placebo. This is chemistry.

Two kinds of work, simultaneously.

Bergamot is rare among essential oils because it operates on two levels at once — on the emotional brain, and on the skin.

Mental benefit

Helps you stand taller.

Bergamot works directly on the limbic system — the brain's emotional centre — to release guilt, dissolve low self-esteem, and quiet the spiral of negative thought. Inhale it when you need to feel like yourself again.

Physical benefit

Balances oil-prone skin.

Calms sebum production for clearer, calmer complexions. Our Bergamot is bergapten-free (FCF) — the phototoxic compound has been removed — so it's safe to apply to skin during the day without risk of sun sensitivity.

Ask us anything →
Q1 What does bergapten-free mean?

Bergapten is a naturally occurring compound in bergamot that causes
photosensitivity — it reacts with sunlight and can cause skin darkening
or burning. Bergapten-free (also called FCF — furanocoumarin-free) means
this compound has been removed, making the oil safe to apply to skin
during the day.

Q2 Is Bergamot safe during pregnancy?

Please consult your healthcare provider or midwife before using any
essential oils during pregnancy. While bergamot is generally considered
one of the gentler citrus oils, individual circumstances vary.

Q3 Can I apply it directly to my skin?

Always dilute it first. Mix 1–2 drops in 5–10 mL of a carrier oil like
Almond or Jojoba before applying topically. Because our Bergamot is
bergapten-free, it is safe for daytime skin use when diluted.

Q4 How is it different from other citrus oils?

Bergamot is warmer and more complex than most citrus oils. Where lemon
is sharp and lemon-y, bergamot has floral, slightly spiced undertones
that make it more suited to emotional work — and more wearable as a
fragrance.

Q5 How many drops per diffuser session?

We recommend 4–6 drops in a standard 100–200 mL diffuser. Adjust to your
preference — more for a stronger presence, fewer for a lighter
background note.

Q6 Can I use it for my skin and mood at the same time?

Yes — that's exactly the point. Apply diluted to your face for skin benefits, and diffuse it in the same room to work on your mood
simultaneously. Aromachology at its best.
